Missed the 1 October Registration Cut-Off? What SIL Providers Must Do Now
The SIL registration cut-off has passed. How to check your scope and remediate without sugar-coating.

Mandatory registration for Supported Independent Living and NDIS digital platform providers commenced 1 July 2026 — and 1 October was the application cut-off. Any provider in scope who hadn't lodged by then must stop delivering those supports. If that's you, here's the situation without sugar-coating.
First: confirm you were actually in scope
The cut-off applied to SIL providers and platform providers specifically — not to every NDIS provider. Check the NDIS Commission's high-risk supports list and the registration rules before assuming the worst. If your services genuinely fall outside scope, document why and carry on.
If you missed it
Stop the affected supports immediately. Delivering in-scope supports unregistered risks compliance action that will cost far more than the pause. Notify affected participants honestly and quickly — they need continuity plans, and silence burns trust you can't rebuild.
Lodge now anyway. A late application beats no application. The Commission's transitional arrangements focus on providers making genuine efforts to comply; "didn't know" ages badly with every passing week.
Talk to your plan managers. They carry obligations around the providers they pay. A provider that goes quiet looks worse than one that discloses a compliance pause with a remediation date.
The bigger picture
This cut-off is the first of several registration expansions rolling out toward 2030. Treat compliance as infrastructure now — registered status is rapidly becoming a competitive moat, and participants are already being steered toward verified providers in directories like ours.
